Selected for Nine Years in a Row
HOUSTON– May 16, 2018 – Military Times announced its Best for Vets Employers 2018 rankings, and Waste Management (NYSE: WM) has made the list for the ninth year in a row.
Waste Management (WM) maintains a network of veteran employment outreach partners to communicate our openings and events, attending over 100 veteran job fairs in the U.S. and Canada each year. In 2017, 8.6% (over 1,000) of all the company’s U.S. hires were military veterans. More than 3,000 veterans work in a variety of roles at WM.
“We consider military veterans a valuable population for talent because of the many tangible (training and experience) and intangible (work ethic and character) qualities they bring to us,” Waste Management Talent Acquisition representative Wes Reel stated. “Additionally, certain fields from the military translate particularly well to WM, such as military ground transportation, vehicle fleet maintenance and construction/engineering.”
A valuable resource for veterans – and a coveted honor for companies around the country – the annual Military Times Best for Vets rankings are the result of a meticulous, months-long process. Military Times invites companies to fill out its nearly 100-question survey, tests to ensure the accuracy of responses, carefully evaluates survey data and includes only the best companies in its published rankings.
Businesses large and small participate, and the list includes many Fortune 500 companies. In their ninth year, the rankings evaluate companies’ culture, veteran recruiting, veteran policies, and accommodations for members of the National Guard and reserves. The standards are objective, rigorous, and editorially independent. As a result, transitioning service members recognize them as the most trusted veteran job rankings and have come to rely on Best for Vets Employers to aid their transition to civilian life.
