UNIQLO, Piece of Cake Moving and Storage, and WM Join Forces to Help Keep Clothing Waste Out of Landfills

UNtrash It Program Available in NYC, LA, and Dallas

March 24, 2026 – This Earth Month, UNtrash It returns and expands. Building on last year’s success in the New York area, collecting over 7,000 pounds of clothing, UNIQLO has teamed up with Piece of Cake Moving and Storage and WM to make it easier than ever to give unwanted clothing a second life – and now services Dallas and Los Angeles in addition to NYC. UNtrash It is designed to extend the values of RE.UNIQLO beyond the store, seamlessly diverting clothing from landfills and back into the circular economy—at a critical moment when consumers need an easy solution to responsibly part with textiles when moving.

The Problem: Every year, millions of tons of clothing waste are generated. Meanwhile, many people struggle with overflowing closets, packed drawers, and old clothes that sit unworn for years. The reason? A lack of easy, accessible ways to responsibly part with them—especially during life transitions like moving.

The Solution: UNtrash It. UNtrash It offers a simple, frictionless way for consumers to responsibly recycle their clothes at key life moments—whether moving, decluttering, or simply making space. By leveraging Piece of Cake Moving’s logistics, UNIQLO’s in-store collection program, RE.UNIQLO, and WM’s advanced textile sorting and recycling infrastructure, this initiative helps each garment find its best next life—through donation or recycling—sending nothing to landfills. For Earth Month, UNIQLO, Piece of Cake, and WM are fully funding the program, making it completely free for consumers.

Moving in LA, Dallas, or New York?

Book your move with Piece of Cake Moving, pack your UNtrash It Bag(s) with unwanted clothing, and Piece of Cake will collect it alongside your move. These garments are then directed to UNIQLO’s RE.UNIQLO program, where items are sorted for donation to a local organization or to be recycled with WM, North America's leading provider of comprehensive environmental solutions. WM will use its advanced textile sorting technology to sort unwearable items for potential future reuse or recycling, helping to enable greater textile circularity.

“At UNIQLO, our philosophy is to create high-quality, perfected essentials that our customers will love to wear for years to come,” said Jean Shein, Global Director of Sustainability at UNIQLO. “We are committed to taking ownership of every stage of a product’s lifecycle, from initial design to the end of its wearable life. Through RE.UNIQLO, we extend the life of our products with care and intention. UNtrash It complements this commitment by bringing RE.UNIQLO directly into customers’ lives, making it simple to recycle their clothing even during life’s big transitions, like moving homes. Together, these efforts reflect our respect for both our customers and the products they choose to wear, ensuring cherished clothes find new life instead of ending up in landfills.”

"At Piece of Cake Moving, we're committed to making every move a piece of cake. Before a customer starts packing, we encourage them to take a moment to edit their closet: if they haven’t worn something in a year, it’s probably time to donate or sell it, rather than moving items they don’t love or use. The UNtrash It partnership with UNIQLO and WM this Earth Month makes it even easier to donate clothes during our customer's moving day, while giving those items a second life and ensuring they don’t end up in a landfill,” said Najah Ayoub, CMO of Piece of Cake Moving & Storage."

“WM is a leader in textile recycling by building infrastructure that can reduce the amount of clothing sent to landfills,” said Tara Hemmer, chief sustainability officer, WM. “Our textile recycling facility, a first-of-its-kind in the U.S., alongside collaborations like the one WM has with UNIQLO and Piece of Cake, is helping advance the industry and show consumers that unwanted clothing can be recycled rather than thrown away.”

Not Moving?

Drop off your clothes at any UNIQLO store nationwide using designated RE.UNIQLO Bins—no landfill, no hassle, no more overflowing drawers. Donations will be sorted into clothes that can be reused and clothes that can be recycled into new products and materials.

Why This Matters:

Most people discard clothing simply because they don’t know what else to do with it. UNtrash It, together with RE.UNIQLO, changes that. By meeting people where they already are—at home or in stores—this initiative removes the barriers to responsible fashion consumption and transforms clothing disposal into a sustainable habit.

The Bigger Picture: Driving Long-Term Circularity

With textile waste reaching critical levels, RE.UNIQLO and UNtrash It together provide a scalable, impactful solution—one that can turn unwanted clothes into new possibilities, not landfill waste. By focusing on moving as a key moment for textile disposal and meeting consumers exactly where they need an easy, responsible option, UNtrash It is setting a new standard for sustainable fashion practices.
