How WM and Starbucks are Helping Expand Recycling for To-Go Cups

One cup. One choice. One opportunity to reimagine what happens next.

Plastic cold beverage cups—the kind used by many retailers for to‑go drinks, including Starbucks—have officially earned the Widely Recyclable designation from How2Recycle®, North America’s most recognized on‑pack recycling label. That means at least 60 percent of U.S. households now have access to recycling programs that accept these cups.

In this video, WM Chief Sustainability Officer Tara Hemmer and Starbucks Chief Sustainability Officer Marika McCauley Sine sit down inside a Starbucks café to explore how cup recycling works—and how small actions by consumers can add up to meaningful impact.
